Dear Colleagues, we would like to remind you about the forthcoming: "Gran Sasso Summer Institute 2014 - Hands-On Experimental Underground Physics at LNGS", which will be held at Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (Italy) from September 22nd to October 3rd, 2014.
== Please note that the deadline for registration has been extended to June, 30th ==
The aim of the Summer Institute is to get a limited number of PhD students and young post-docs directly involved in the current research projects of LNGS, the world-leading laboratory for underground astroparticle physics and nuclear astrophysics.
Hands-on activities will focus on the following topics:
- Dark matter (CRESST, DAMA, DARK SIDE, XENON)
- Neutrinoless double beta decay (CUORE, GERDA, LUCIFER)
- Neutrino oscillations (BOREXINO, ICARUS, OPERA)
- Nuclear astrophysics (LUNA)
- Low radioactivity measurements (STELLA)
- Geodesy and general relativity (GINGER).
For the first four topics an introduction to the physics underlying the research field and an overview about detection methods and experimental results will be addressed by international lectures (2 hours/day). Students will have the opportunity to report the results of their experimental activity on the peer-reviewed journal "Proceedings of Science" (PoS).
For application and additional information on the program of the Institute, please refer to:
