Studying Presolar Grains at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
abstract
Presolar grains, recovered from meteorites, are micrometer-sized particles that formed in the outflows of
dying stars. These bona fide stardust grains represent unique samples to study stellar nucleosynthesis as
well as galactical chemical evolution using laboratory analyses. In this talk I will discuss the experimental
techniques used to study presolar grains and specificially focus on the capabilities that are available at
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. I will present applications with regard to the slow neutron
capture process and galactic chemical evolution and discuss recent results that were obtained using
resonance ionization mass spectrometry. Finally, I will elaborate on ongoing and future work at Livermore
